Ideal for immersion dyeing, tie dyeing, ice dyeing, printing, graduation dyeing, twisting, sponging and design work on paper.
Why are they called Procion ‘reactive’ dyes? Due to a chemical bonding ‘reaction’
between the dye molecules and the fabric that, in effect, makes them part of the fabric.
This is why, unlike, direct dyes, they are so permanent.
Fixer – Soda Ash ‘fixes’ the dye to the fabric and is essential. Soda Ash can be made at home by baking sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) at 150C for 1 hour in the oven spread out on a baking tray
Salt makes the fibres of the fabric more receptive to the dye
A low impact, synthetic dye is free from heavy metalsand banned azo dyes and helps reduce water consumption, pollution, toxicity and greenhouse gas emissions. When the instructions are followed correctly the dye ranges have a high absorption rate. This means that approx 90% of the dye transfers to the fabric from the water with reactive dyes. This greatly reduces the amount of waste dye which goes down the drain – one of the reasons they are low impact dyes.
Also, they don’t contain any toxic chemicals and, unlike natural dyes, they don’t require
any toxic mordants (polyvalent metal ions) to completely fix the dye to the fabric.
Natural doesn’t always mean harmless. The concentrated nature of

For Black and very intense shades use double the quantity of dye.
