Wallace Seymour Fine Art Products — Made by Artists, for Artists
Some paints are manufactured. Wallace Seymour paints are made.
Founded in 2011 by Rebecca Wallace and Pip Seymour in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, Wallace Seymour is one of the UK's most respected small-batch fine art paint makers. Every colour is produced in quantities of no more than one litre at a time — ground by hand or by machine according to the nature of each individual pigment, then carefully prepared into English cold-pressed linseed oil from a single estate farm.
The result is paint with a depth, resonance, and character that mass-produced ranges simply cannot replicate.
Why artists choose Wallace Seymour:
- Small-batch production means every tube is consistent and carefully made
- Pigments are sourced from original quarries, ancient earth sources, and carefully selected modern synthetics
- No unnecessary fillers or extenders — maximum pigment load, every time
- The range includes colours you won't find elsewhere: forgotten historical hues, native Yorkshire earths, and rare mineral pigments
- Developed with over 20 years of industry expertise and tested through real artistic practice
We're proud to be one of a select group of independent UK retailers chosen by Wallace Seymour to stock their full range. If you have questions about which product is right for your practice, our team are on hand in-store in Hebden Bridge or reachable at hello@craftandcanvas.co.uk.
FAQ
What is the difference between Wallace Seymour and standard artist-grade paint? Most artist-grade paints are produced in large batches with consistent, commercially optimised formulas. Wallace Seymour produces in micro-batches — often just a litre at a time — using hand-selected pigments and traditional methods. This means each batch has its own character, and the pigment load is significantly higher than typical commercial ranges.
Is Wallace Seymour suitable for beginners? Wallace Seymour is a professional-grade range. That said, many artists choose to start with quality materials from day one — it teaches you to understand how real paint behaves. If you're unsure where to begin, our staff can advise.
Do Wallace Seymour paints dry slowly? The oil colours are made without drying agents, so drying time varies by pigment. Wallace Seymour recommends adding 10–20% of their Fast Drying Oil Glaze Medium to achieve a more balanced drying time if needed.
Can I order Wallace Seymour products online? Yes — our full range is available to order via craftandcanvas.co.uk with UK-wide delivery. If you're looking for a specific colour or product not shown, contact us and we'll do our best to source it.
