Aluminium foil of the kind that artists and crafters have used for generations to create embossed, tooled, and decorative metallic surfaces — but in a quality and weight that is specifically designed for craft embossing work. The Folia Prägefolie is a genuine aluminium foil, gold-coloured on both sides, at 70 microns (0.07mm) — thick enough to hold embossed marks cleanly and retain its shape without creasing or collapsing, but thin enough to cut easily with scissors and work comfortably with embossing tools, ball-point tools, and pens.

The gold-coloured aluminium surface is smooth and consistent, reflecting light with the warm, rich quality of a metallic surface that printed or painted gold simply cannot replicate. Because the material is aluminium throughout — coloured on both sides — there is no coating to crack or peel away from the surface when it is worked, bent, or folded, and the metallic appearance is maintained on both faces of the sheet regardless of what is embossed into it.

Embossing aluminium foil is one of the most satisfying and immediate craft techniques available — place the foil on a soft pad such as a mouse mat or a folded cloth, draw or press into the surface with an embossing tool or spent ballpoint pen, and the metal deforms to create a raised relief on the opposite side. The foil can then be coloured with inks, paints, or patinating solutions to bring out the embossed detail, or left with its natural metallic finish. It can also be cut with scissors into shapes, layered, adhered to card and mixed media projects, and used as a decorative surface element without embossing.

Pack of 3 sheets, each measuring 18.5 x 29cm — a generous A4-adjacent size that gives a practical working area for most embossing projects.

Sheet size: 18.5 x 29cm
Thickness: 70 microns (0.07mm)
Material: Aluminium, gold-coloured on both sides
Sheets per pack: 3

How do you emboss aluminium foil?
Place the foil on a soft, yielding surface — a mouse mat, foam pad, or folded cloth works well. Use an embossing tool, spent ballpoint pen, or similar rounded tool to draw or press designs into the surface. The metal deforms under pressure, creating a raised relief on the opposite side. Work from the back of the foil for raised embossed areas, from the front for recessed ones.

Can it be cut with scissors?
Yes — the 70 micron thickness cuts cleanly and easily with standard scissors without requiring metal shears or a craft knife. It can also be cut with a craft knife against a cutting mat for very precise shapes.

Can the embossed surface be coloured?
Yes — the metallic surface accepts inks, acrylic paint, patinating solutions, and antiquing mediums well. Applying a dark colour over an embossed surface and then wiping back the high points is a classic technique that brings out the embossed relief with dramatic effect.

What other projects is it suitable for?
Decorative relief panels, greeting cards, mixed media art, bookbinding decoration, gift tags, jewellery making, model making, and any project where a genuine metallic surface with physical texture is needed.
