That sounds like it should be the baseline expectation for any product in this category, but it is more of a rarity than it ought to be — many so-called metallic craft paints produce a flat, slightly shiny colour rather than a genuinely reflective, lustrous finish. DecoArt Dazzling Metallics is different. Made with finely ground metal flakes rather than pearlescent pigments or simple shimmer additives, it delivers a bright, richly reflective metallic finish that holds its own against far more expensive alternatives.
The paint is water-based, non-toxic, and cleans up with soap and water. It is opaque and fast drying, with excellent coverage in a single coat on most surfaces — though pearl and lighter shades may benefit from a second coat. The metallic finish is durable and lightfast once dry, meaning it will not fade or dull over time with normal use. No heat setting is required. The consistency flows well from a brush and applies smoothly through a stencil with a sponge, making it versatile across a wide range of craft and decorative applications.
The range works on an impressive variety of surfaces — paper, card, canvas, wood, MDF, chipboard, bisque, plaster, masonry, metal, and fabric among them. On fabric, allow 48 hours to dry before washing gently in warm water with a mild, unscented detergent. For best results on fabric, apply generously with a soft brush. Dilute with water only when needed — DecoArt specifically advise against adding any medium to Dazzling Metallics, as this can reduce the intensity of the metallic finish.

What surfaces does DecoArt Dazzling Metallics work on? It adheres to paper, card, canvas, wood, MDF, chipboard, bisque, plaster, masonry, metal, and fabric. Some surfaces may benefit from priming first — always test on a small area before committing to the full project.
Does it need heat setting on fabric? No — heat setting is not required. Apply generously with a soft brush, allow to dry for 48 hours, then wash gently in warm water with a mild unscented detergent and hang to dry. Do not tumble dry until completely dry as heat can dull the metallic finish.
Can it be mixed with other paints or mediums? It is intermixable with other Dazzling Metallics colours and can be mixed into DecoArt Americana colours to add a metallic accent. DecoArt advise against adding any medium — including fabric medium or drying time extender — as this reduces the intensity of the metallic finish. Dilute with water only when needed.
Does it need a varnish or sealer? Not required — Dazzling Metallics dries to a durable, lightfast finish that does not need an additional sealer for most applications. A varnish can be applied over the top if desired for extra protection.
How many coats are needed? Most colours give excellent coverage in a single well-brushed coat. Pearl and lighter shades may require a second coat. Allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next.
