The Euro Sketchbook is a modern classic and one of Seawhite's most enduring and widely used products — the sketchbook that introduced the wide wire-o binding to the artists' market and has been a staple of art schools, studios, and professional practice ever since. It does not look like a student sketchbook. It does not feel like one either. The distinctive black Microline cover — hard, smooth, and lacquered to a protective finish with the characteristic fine texture that gives the range its name and rounded corners that resist damage in a bag — gives it an appearance that is genuinely professional. Open it up and the paper justifies that first impression.
The paper is 50 sheets of Seawhite's own 160gsm all-media cartridge — acid-free, chlorine-free, and sized internally for extra wet strength. At 160gsm it is a significantly heavier sheet than the 140gsm found in most comparable sketchbooks, and the wet-strength sizing makes a real difference in practice. The paper handles pencil, graphite, charcoal, pen and ink, fine liner, soft pastels, coloured pencils, and markers confidently, and takes light watercolour washes, ink wash, and light acrylic work without buckling — a combination that genuinely earns the designation all-media. The surface is smooth with a subtle tooth that grips dry media cleanly and produces precise, expressive marks without resistance.
The binding is a wide 7/8" silver wire-o that opens completely flat, giving access to every millimetre of the working surface right to the edge. The wide wire has a practical additional advantage — it expands to accommodate material stuck into the sketchbook without distorting the spine, making it ideal for the kind of resource and reference sketchbook where cuttings, tickets, postcards, and printed references are gathered alongside drawings. Pages can also be removed and reinserted without damaging the binding.
We stock seven formats: A6, A5, and A4 portrait, A3 portrait, and A5, A4, and A3 landscape — covering every common working orientation and size from compact everyday carry through to large-format studio and life drawing use.

What is the Microline cover? The Microline cover is Seawhite's distinctive hardback cover material — rigid, smooth, and lacquered to a protective finish, with a fine textured pattern that gives it its name. It is durable enough to withstand daily bag-and-studio use while looking consistently professional. The rounded corners resist the damage that square corners suffer in bags and pockets.
What media can be used in the Euro Sketchbook? Pencil, graphite, charcoal, soft pastel, pen and ink, fine liner, coloured pencil, markers, light watercolour washes, ink wash, and light acrylic. The 160gsm weight and wet-strength sizing make it considerably more capable with wet media than most sketchbooks at this price point. For heavy or repeated watercolour work, a dedicated watercolour paper is still preferable.
Can material be stuck into the sketchbook? Yes — the wide wire-o binding expands to accommodate cuttings, photographs, printed references, postcards, and other material stuck or taped onto pages without distorting the spine or making the book difficult to close. This makes the Euro Sketchbook an excellent choice for resource and concept development work.
Can pages be removed and reinserted? Yes — pages can be slid off the wire and reinserted without damage, allowing the book to be reorganised, pages to be removed for display or submission, and new sheets to be added.
Which orientation should I choose — portrait or landscape? Portrait is the most versatile and widely used orientation for general drawing, figure work, and urban sketching. Landscape suits panoramic composition, architectural drawing, and any subject where the horizontal field of view is the priority. Both orientations open completely flat with the wire-o binding.
