Pocket-sized, lightweight, and made with genuinely good paper — the Hahnemühle Travel Booklet is the kind of sketchbook that slips into a jacket pocket and comes out at exactly the right moment. Produced by a German paper mill with a history stretching back to 1584, these are not an afterthought. The paper quality is the whole point.
Each pack contains two booklets in portrait format, both measuring 9 x 14cm. The paper is 140gsm, natural white, and lightly textured — giving enough surface tooth for pencil and ink to grip well and producing clean, lively marks without the resistance of a heavily grained paper. The texture also provides good colour adhesion for light watercolour and wash work, though at 140gsm these booklets are best suited to pencil, pen, fine liner, and light colour work rather than heavy watercolour applications. The paper is unlined throughout, leaving the pages completely open for drawing, sketching, notes, or a combination of all three.
A small pocket inside the rear cover of each booklet is one of those details that earns its place immediately — useful for tucking in ticket stubs, receipts, torn-off notes, photos, or anything else worth keeping alongside the sketches. The booklets are compact and flexible enough to fit into a bag or pocket without adding noticeable weight or bulk.
Acid-free and age-resistant, as with all Hahnemühle papers, so work created in these booklets will not yellow or deteriorate over time.
How many sheets does each booklet contain? Each booklet contains 20 sheets (40 pages). The pack contains two booklets, giving 40 sheets in total.
What media work best in the Hahnemühle Travel Booklet? The 140gsm lightly textured paper is best suited to pencil, graphite, fine liner, ballpoint, and pen and ink. It handles light watercolour and wash well but is not designed for heavy or repeated watercolour washes — for more intensive watercolour work, Hahnemühle's dedicated watercolour books with higher gsm paper would be a better choice.
What size are the booklets? 9 x 14cm portrait format — roughly the size of a large index card, and small enough to fit comfortably in a coat pocket or the front pocket of a bag.
Is there a larger size available? Yes. The Travel Booklets are also available in 13.5 x 21cm portrait format if a larger working area is needed.
Are the pages lined or plain? All pages are completely unlined, making them suitable for drawing, sketching, writing, or mixed use.
Is the paper acid-free? Yes. Like all Hahnemühle papers, the Travel Booklets are acid-free and age-resistant, meaning the paper will not yellow or degrade over time.
