HIMI has built a devoted following among illustrators, sketchers, and social media artists by producing art materials that are genuinely fun to use, beautifully packaged, and more capable than their price point might suggest. The Metallic Watercolour Set is one of their most visually striking products — 12 shimmer and metallic colours in the Silver Edition palette, pressed into removable and reusable pans in a compact metal case, with a waterbrush included. Everything needed to get started is in the box.
The metallic quality is the whole point of this set. These are not conventional watercolours with a slight sheen — they are specifically formulated metallic and shimmer pigments that catch and reflect light in a genuinely striking way, producing the kind of luminous, jewel-like results that conventional watercolour cannot achieve. The Silver Edition palette spans cool silvers, icy blues, pewters, and complementary shimmer tones — a cohesive selection that works naturally together for celestial and night-sky themes, winter and ice subjects, underwater illustration, lettering, decorative and mixed media work, and any application where a cool, luminous metallic quality is the aim.
The pigments are highly pigmented, water-soluble, and activate quickly with a damp brush — no soaking or waiting. They blend smoothly on the surface, creating unique palettes and transitions without the chalky or grainy quality that lesser metallic paints can produce. The paint is non-toxic, lightfast, and cleans up with water. Each pan is removable and reusable — pans can be taken out and rearranged, or individual colours replaced when they run out.
The set is supplied in a slim, sturdy metal case with a hinged lid that doubles as a mixing palette. A waterbrush is included, making it fully self-contained for travel and location use.

Are these conventional watercolours?
No — these are specifically formulated metallic and shimmer pigments that produce a luminous, reflective finish unlike conventional watercolour. They can be used alongside standard watercolours for accent and highlight work, but the metallic quality is the defining characteristic of the set.
What are they best used for?
They are particularly well suited to celestial and night-sky themes, winter and ice subjects, underwater illustration, hand lettering, brush calligraphy, decorative and mixed media work, and any application where a cool, luminous metallic quality is the aim. The Silver Edition palette is particularly effective when used on dark or toned paper where the metallic pigments show their full brilliance.
What is the difference between the Gold and Silver Edition sets?
The Gold Edition (YSC244) contains warm gold, bronze, and ochre metallic tones suited to botanical, celestial, and warm decorative work. The Silver Edition (YSC243) contains cool silver, icy blue, and pewter metallic tones suited to night-sky, winter, underwater, and cool decorative themes. Both sets contain 12 pans in the same metal case format with the same waterbrush included. The two sets complement each other and can be used alongside one another.
Do they work on dark paper?
Yes — the metallic pigments are opaque enough to show clearly on dark and toned paper, which is where they produce the most striking results. On white or light paper they still produce a beautiful metallic sheen.
Can the pans be replaced individually?
Yes — the pans are removable and reusable. Individual pans can be taken out and replaced when a colour runs out without replacing the entire set.
