The simplest way to transform the colour of your clothes and soft furnishings without leaving the house. Dylon Machine Dye Pods are an all-in-one fabric dye formula that goes straight into the washing machine drum — no pre-mixing, no measuring, no mess. Just put in the damp fabric, drop in the pod, and run the cycle. The machine does the rest.

Dylon has been the most trusted name in home fabric dyeing for decades, and the 350g pod format is the most convenient product in the range. Each pod contains everything needed for a complete dyeing cycle — dye, fixative, and salt — in a single pre-measured unit. The colour is permanent, vibrant, and long-lasting, washing after washing. One 350g pod will dye up to 600g of dry fabric to the full, rich shade shown — equivalent to a pair of jeans, a bath towel, or a double sheet. For lighter or more pastel results, a single pod will extend to up to 1.8kg of fabric. For larger items such as double duvets or curtains, two or more pods can be used simultaneously in a single load.

The pods are safe for use in front-loading automatic washing machines. They should not be used in top-loading machines or launderette machines. After dyeing, a clean-up cycle with a dishwasher tablet run empty ensures no residual dye remains in the machine before normal washing is resumed.

For the most vivid results, cotton, linen, and viscose dye to full shade. Polyester and cotton or viscose mixes will dye to a lighter shade, as synthetic fibres do not absorb domestic dye. Pure synthetics, wool, silk, and fabrics with special finishes such as waterproofing or fire retardancy cannot be dyed with Dylon pods. If changing from one dark colour to another, or wanting a particularly light result, use Dylon Pre-Dye first.

We stock 18 colours: Espresso Brown, Intense Black, Tulip Red, Jeans Blue, Smoke Grey, Forest Green, Sunflower Yellow, Deep Violet, Olive Green, Sandy Beige, Peony Pink, Passion Pink, Navy Blue, Emerald Green, Fresh Orange, Plum Red, Ocean Blue, and Vintage Blue.

How do you use a Dylon Machine Dye Pod? Pre-wash the fabric and leave it damp. Remove the pod's outer sleeve, peel off the lid, and place the pod on top of the damp fabric in the washing machine drum. Run a full cycle at 30°C or 40°C. Once complete, run a second cycle at the same temperature with your normal detergent. Finally, run one empty cycle with a dishwasher tablet to clear residual dye from the machine.

How much fabric will one pod dye? One 350g pod dyes up to 600g of dry fabric to the full shade — approximately one pair of jeans, a bath towel, or a double sheet. Up to 1.8kg of fabric can be dyed to a lighter shade with a single pod. Multiple pods can be used in a single load for larger items or a deeper result.

Can it be used on any fabric? Cotton, linen, and viscose dye to full shade. Polyester and cotton or viscose mixes will achieve a lighter result. Pure polyester, wool, silk, acrylic, nylon, and fabrics with special finishes cannot be dyed. Do not dye any fabric where the synthetic content exceeds 20% if you want a strong result.

Will dye remain in the washing machine? The pods are designed to leave no residual dye in a modern front-loading machine when used correctly. After dyeing, run one empty cycle with a dishwasher tablet to ensure the drum, seal, and drum are completely clear before normal washing is resumed. Wipe the door seal thoroughly after dyeing.

What if I want to change from one dark colour to another? Use Dylon Pre-Dye first — this strips existing colour from the fabric, giving the new dye the best possible base and ensuring the most vibrant, accurate result. We also stock Dylon Pre-Dye separately.
